| Richard R. Morrison, Sr. | |

Richard R. Morrison, Sr., 74, of Palm, passed away after a battle with
cancer on Thursday, May 14, 2009 in Fox Chase Cancer Center,
Philadelphia. He was the husband of Joan (Fainor) Morrison. The couple
would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on August 22. Born
in Allentown, he was the son of the late Thomas and Amelia (Van Arsdale)
Morrison. He was a member of the Trinity Great Swamp United Church of Christ, Spinnerstown. He was an Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion of Topton. He was employed by Electro Space Fabricators of Topton for 35 years before retiring. Richard was an avid sportsman. Surviving, along with his wife, are sons: Richard Morrison, Jr., and his wife, Heidi, Thomas Morrison, and his wife, Karen, and Devin Morrison; daughters: Pamela Byers, and her husband, David, Gail Kasche, and fiancée, Andrew Estojak, Stephanie Morrison, Tasha Morrison, and Moehesshae Johnson, and her husband, Larry; a brother, Robert Morrison; 19 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Richard and his wife were foster parents to 98 children over the years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Morrison, Jr. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm Street, Emmaus. Calling hours were Sunday evening and Monday morning at the funeral home. Interment was in Trinity Great Swamp U.C.C. Cemetery. |

Tillie J. (Knerr) Needs, 99, widow of James W. Needs, of Perkiomenville,
died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Manatawny Manor, Pottstown after a brief
illness. Born in Frederick, she was a daughter of the late Erwin and Lizzie (Johnson) Knerr. She was a homemaker and loved to cook and bake. She was an active member and volunteer of Peace in Zion United Church of Christ, Zieglerville, and she sang in the choir for many years, did quilting and belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are two sons: H. Eugene Needs and his wife, Patricia, of Green Lane, and Carl A. Needs and his wife, Anna Mae, of Green Lane; a daughter, Jane M. Needs-Daley and her husband, John Daley, of Douglasville; seven grandchildren, Steven, Debra, Bonnie, Susan, Sherri, Donna and Jeffrey and nine great-grandchildren, Amy, Betsy, Mathew, Ethan, Ronald, Elizabeth, Brittany, Douglas and Kathryn. She was predeceased by a son, Robert J. Needs, and two sisters: Jennie Moyer and Myrtle Sautter. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, with Rev. Maryann Ronan-Lamson officiating. Interment followed in the Keelor’s Union Cemetery, Obelisk. Prior to that a viewing was held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Evan S. Snyder, PhD, 85, husband of the late Virginia E. (Boyer) Snyder,
Linfield–Trappe Rd., Trappe, died Sunday at Phoenixville Hospital. Dr. Snyder was born on August 24, 1923, in Lehighton. He was a son of the late Chester A. and Cora (Berger) Snyder. Dr. Snyder attended Franklin Township Independent High School and graduated from Lehighton High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ursinus College. He earned Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Snyder served as a Technician 4th Grade, with the 9812th Technical Service Unit, US Army, in Los Alamos, NM, during World War II. Dr. Snyder retired in 1991 as a professor and former department chairman from Ursinus College where he taught physics for 45 years. He also was an instructor for National Science Foundation summer programs for high school teachers at New Mexico State University. Dr. Snyder was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, United Church Of Christ, where he sang in the choir. He also was a member of Keystone Grange #2, Trappe; the Trappe Historical Society; the Pennsylvania German Society; Pennsylvania Folk Life Society; the Goschenhoppen Historians; Rails To Trails; and the Pennsylvania Canal Association. He also made and demonstrated reproductions of antique toys at the annual Kutztown Pennsylvania German Festival. Dr. Snyder is survived by his daughter, Susan E. Snyder, Broadview Heights, Ohio; his son, John E. Snyder, Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom; and his brother, Willard Snyder, Athens, Georgia. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Karl A. Snyder. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m, Saturday at Trinity Reformed Church, United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Dr. Martha B. Kriebel, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be private in Trinity Reformed Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Reformed Church, UCC, 532 E. Main St., Collegeville, PA 19426; or Goschenhoppen Historians, c/o Ed Johnson, President, 51 Knockel Road., Green Lane, PA 18054. Arrangements are by the Holcombe Funeral Home, Inc., Trappe. |
